Many college football fans have been awaiting the new football season since last season’s ending. Georgia fans were disappointed by a season riddled with injuries. In fact, in one of the games, four players fell to injuries. Hopeful for a better season, the Bulldogs, like other teams, are preparing for the 2014 season.
In and around Atlanta, varied team flags are flying high and proud as fans prepare for the upcoming football season. In our own home, the LSU flag was hung on the first day of August.
Fans are also looking with anticipation and apprehension to the new play-off system that will be implemented this season. And then, there’s the all new SEC Network of which the major providers have signed on to carry. DIRECTV was among the last to make the announcement to carry the awaited outlet.
Game Plan for Life, a book co-written by Jerry Jenkins and Joe Gibbs, compares football to life with the Bible likened to a playbook. The premise of the book illustrates how a person can live a successful life following God’s “playbook,” in much the same way that a team can be successful when it follows the team’s playbook.
It’s crunch time for teams preparing for the upcoming season. In a similar way, we can look at the events taking place in the world today and realize that it is crunch time for a far more serious event than football season.
We are living in troubled and perilous times as the Bible predicted we would in the last days. Jesus gave us specific signs to look for, in awaiting His return and the end of the age. The first thing He warned about when he began answering the question the disciples had asked him about the end times was deception. (Matthew 24:4) But He told us to look up, for our redemption is drawing near. (Luke 21:28)
Israel is in the news, daily. And I’m concerned that the liberal news is not reporting the truth about the fighting or Israel’s right to defend herself. We need to pray for the peace and protection of Jerusalem. (Psalm 122:6)
The most important decision a person can make right now is to follow Life’s Playbook, the Bible, and to call on the name of the Lord. For in its pages a person can find the answer to life’s most important issue—peace with God. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.” Romans 10:13 (KJV)
