Are you a crab lover? There is a crab feed this Saturday, February 11, at the Santa Cruz Portuguese Hall. Tickets are $45 and include all-you-can-eat crab plus wine (both red and white). Other beverages, like hard liquor, are extra.
The event is a benefit for the Portuguese Hall; for tickets call(831) 316-8003. Attendees sit at long communal tables, and crab and shrimp are served family-style. Note: you need to bring your own crab-cracking supplies, but bowls for the shells are provided. I spoke to one past attendee (who enjoys it every year); she mentioned that the shrimp is in a “delicious scampi-style sauce,” and that you also receive iceberg salad and garlic bread at this event. She also mentions that the folks who run the crab feed are very efficient at bringing new platters of crab and shrimp when the current ones are running low. Sounds like a good time!
The evening starts with a cocktail hour (actually two hours) from 4-6pm; during this “pre-dinner-time” attendees do need to purchase their own beverages. Once dinner begins at 6pm, complimentary wine is served. After dinner, there will be live music – and at that time, you will need to pay for any wine that you consume.
For more information call (831) 316-8003 or see the Portuguese Hall web site. Curious about Portuguese Hall? It’s affiliated with the CPDES; in 1928 the Colonia Portuguesa do Divino Espirito Santo (CPDES) held its first festa in Santa Cruz. The CPDES was organized in 1928 by a group of five Portuguese men. The first organizational meeting took place in January 1928.
