The “James Bond” franchise saw the biggest box office opening in history when ‘Skyfall” was introduced to audiences. Helming “Skyfall” was Sam Mendes, delivering the Bond film that brought in the best reviews in the past two decades. Fans of the Bond franchise want to see him return for the newest in the series, “James Bond 24,” coming to theaters in 2014.
Mendes stated he was finished with the seat of director for any more Bond films. Now, he’s talking about taking on the latest release, giving fans hope that the new film will outdo them all. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade co-wrote the string of films, back to “The World is Not Enough. The penning duo confirmed that they would not be returning for any Bond flicks in the future.
In October of 2012, Mendes made this statement:
It’s been a fantastic experience but it’s been completely exhausting. Do I want to do another one? I’m a shadow of my former self. No, I don’t know. I felt like everything I wanted to do with a Bond movie, I put into this film. So, I would have to be convinced that I could do something that I loved and cared about as much if I was to do it again. I think the great risk of repeating oneself is that one doesn’t have the great store of ideas that you have when you first tackle a project.
Recently, Mendes was quoted as saying:
I’ve enjoyed it enough to do it again. I think the choice is in the audience’s hands. If people love the movie and they want to see another one from the same people who brought you ‘Skyfall,’ then that would mean a lot to me. I would feel like, ‘Well, actually there are people who really want to see it.’
While Mendes is not positive that he will be returning as director as of yet, his outlook on directing “James Bond 24” is leaning more towards the idea of doing so. Let’s hope he decides to take it on for the sake of Bond fans everywhere.
Of course, Daniel Craig will reprise his role as James Bond. It is rumored that Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Andree Bernard will be joining him in the adventure but they are simply rumors so far.
Lastly, we have the writers who have stepped away from the whole Bond series. ‘Skyfall’ was written by Purvis and Wade but John Logan was also a part of the writing team. As a co-writer of the best of the best in ‘Skyfall,’ Logan can deliver a Bond film that is worth watching.
The next step to bringing a great film to the theaters is the plot. It is rumored that the “James Bond 24” flick will be a two-parter. We’ll have to wait until the release date gets closer to know for sure.
Watch for “James Bond 24” in theaters in November 2014 and quite possibly, “Bond…James Bond…25” shortly after.
