It's the three words that parents love and kids dread, "back to school." In some part of the country, like the South for instance, we are about two weeks away from the buses hitting the road and everyone eating those school lunches.
Each year, I review the hottest new gadgets and tech as kids head back into the classroom, and I'm going to do the same again this year- but with a twist.
The old saying, "everything old is new again" is appropriate here as I'm going to looks at some items that are a new take on some old items.
Are you a bit confused?
Kensington Tablet Folios
Kensington has released some new iPad/tablet cases that look like the old Mead products we used to carry to school. The Composition Books and Trapper Keepers are way cool and they also throw in a few other attractive throwback designs. These are universal folios for two different size devices. 9"-10" tablets and coming very soon for 8"-9" tablets. The folios are soft and lightweight, but very durable. Your screen won't get scratched when encased in the folio and the cover has a magnetic flap that keeps the cover closed.
If you like throwback designs and need a cool case for your tablet, you don't have to look any further than Kensington. Great price point too; $25-$30.
RCA HDTV Indoor Antenna
Are you ready to "cut the cord?"
May households have already done it and now college students are also getting in on the act. Cable bills are expensive and college kids don't want to pay those huge monthly bills.
RCA is here to help.
Their new Ultra-Thin HDTV Indoor Antenna allows a television to receive free local news, sports, weather and network TV show broadcasts in both UHF and VHF. You also get them in high def frequencies in up to 1080i.
“With the new RCA Ultra-Thin HDTV Indoor Antenna, you can enjoy all your favorite local HD and digital broadcasts without a cable or satellite subscription,” explains David Geise, president of Voxx Accessories. “You can watch programs from networks like ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, The CW, PBS, ION, Telemundo, Univision and numerous other stations when you have an antenna. In fact, the broadcast HD channels you receive by antenna have the highest quality definition available. Everyone, including pay TV subscribers and streamers, should have this product.”
The RCA Ultra-Thin HDTV Indoor Antenna is designed to receive broadcast signals on both VHF and UHF. It retails for about $50 on Amazon and at Radio Shack.
