"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" star Kaitlin Olson has landed a recurring role on Fox's "New Girl" during Season 4. As TV Line reported Tuesday (Aug. 12), the actress will play Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and CeCe's (Hannah Simone) onetime high school nemesis, Ashley, who is now engaged to Jess' dad Bob Day (Rob Reiner). Reiner was first introduced in the second season as one half of Jess' divorced parents alongside Jamie Lee Curtis.
Olson's first appearance in the upcoming fourth season will be in the third episode, which is slated to air in late September. She joins previously announced Season 4 guest stars Jessica Biel and Reid Scott ("Veep"). Biel will appear in the season premiere as a hot scientist who ends up competing with Jess over Scott's character Ted at a wedding.
"New Girl" co-stars Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris and Damon Wayans, Jr., who was recently promoted to a series regular for the fourth season after returning as Coach on a recurring basis during Season 3. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Fox comedy just sold cable rights to MTV and TBS, where repeats will start airing in fall of 2015. The series remains the network's top-rated comedy, averaging a 2.5 rating among adults 18-49 last season.
Deschanel is also slated to make her major label debut this fall as a member of She & Him, along with indie guitarist M. Ward. Columbia Records will release their fifth album, "Classics," which will consist of timeless standards, Hitfix reports. The duo announced in June that they had left independent label Merge Records.
"We are incredibly excited to release a record of our favorite songs," Deschanel said in a statement. "It was a dream of ours to record these songs in a way that highlighted the brilliance of the songwriting and the beauty of their melodies. We had a wonderful time making the record and we hope people have a wonderful time listening to it."
Olson, 38, plays Dee Reynolds on FX's long-running sitcom "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," which returns in January for Season 10. She has also recurred on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "The Drew Carey Show," and has done voice work for "Family Guy," "Brickleberry" and the short-lived "Unsupervised."
"New Girl" will return for Season 4 on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 9/8 p.m. CT on Fox.
