Many Cleveland gardeners plant lavender around their yards because of its many uses and depending on variety, its wonderful aroma. (I have some planted on my patio right now). Over the ages, lavender has been used in balms, salves, perfumes, cosmetics and even cooking and it is said that lavender helps alleviate anxiety and it aids in sleep and relaxation.

On Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22, the Peaceful Acres Lavender Farm in Martinsville, Ohio is holding their 6th annual Summer Solstice Lavender Festival to celebrate lavender and its variety of uses.

Summer Solstice Lavender Festival A family-friendly event, the Lavender Festival will feature many lavender-related activities and several holistic activities including massages and the chance to experience getting gonged where you sit in a zero gravity chair between sub atomic gongs where the calm vibrations will help you relax instantly.

Visitors will be able to tour the 3 acres of lavender fields, now in full bloom at the farm. The fields are filled with 11 varieties of lavender and visitors can pick their own bundle.

Among the adult workshops being offered (for a $25 fee) are Lavender Wreath Making and a Dreamcatcher workshop.

Children's activities include face painting and the chance to greet a baby wallaby.

There will be plenty of lavender-related food items (prepared by Chef Benjamin Mentrup) available for purchase.

Visitors will also be able to tour southwest Ohio's only Earthship, an efficient, self-sustaining home made from recycled materials. The Earthship has bottle walls, can walls and a tire foundation.

Admission to the Summer Solstice Lavender Festival is free but there is a small fee to pick your own bundle of lavender and for the adult workshops.

There will be several vendors their selling their lavender-related wares at the Farm Craft Market. Visitors can also purchase "bagged-in-burlap" lavender perennial plants in all shapes and sizes to take home.
