On Saturday, April 21, 2012 several thousand runners will be participating in a very Special Event along the Jersey Shore from Seaside Hts to Asbury Park, NJ.
It’s very “Special” since it will benefit Special Olympics New Jersey.
RunAPaloozanow in its fourth year includes the Jersey Shore Relay Marathon and the Asbury Park Half Marathon.
The Jersey Shore Relay Marathon is now in its 16th year. It’s an event which started with 26 participants in the first year each running 1 mile on a course from Seaside Hts to Asbury Park in conjunction with the Area VI (Monmouth and Ocean County) Special Olympics Track and Field Meet which alternates locations between Ocean and Monmouth Counties. The course has evolved since that first event and now is run along a very scenic ocean front course mostly on boardwalks and ocean front roads. From that start each year the event has drawn additional participants and teams were added in the third year. Last year the event drew 500 teams making it one of the largest road relay races in the country. Teams are comprised of up to 5 members and they compete in various categories including: Open, Masters, Law Enforcement, Fire Departments, Schools and Families.
The Asbury Park Half Marathon is now in its fourth year and features a selection of two amazing courses along the ocean front from Asbury Park to Sea Girt, NJ. Both courses start and finish in on the boardwalk front of Asbury Park’s Convention Hall. The first course is three loops going through historic Ocean Grove through Bradley Beach and a turnaround in Avon by the Sea. The second course takes runners across the bridge which separates Avon by the Sea from Belmar then into Spring Lake and a turnaround in Sea Girt. Runners who take this route are warned that the bridge may open for boat traffic and they risk a minute or two delay. However, at that time of the year there is not much boat traffic so the risk is somewhat low. Runners do not have to declare which course they will take.
After the events there is a huge party inside Convention Hall with complimentary food as well as entertainment. An awards ceremony is also held inside the Hall.
Inside Convention Hall there is also an Expo andvendors interested in participating can check the RunAPalooza Web Site for more information.
Information and registration for all of the above events is available on theRunAPalooza Web Siteat http://www.RunAPalooza.org.
