Big Spring A delight for your senses, visitors to the Cleveland Botanical Garden's Big Spring event will be greeted in the lobby by the sight of an array of Spring flowers including pink and blue hydrangea, white lilies, yellow and red tulips and purple hyacinths amidst a setting of giant flowers and huge garden tools like trowels. Make sure you look up to see the variety of umbrellas (all with Spring flower designs) dangling from the ceiling.

At regular intervals, thunder will sound and visitors will be able to witness a thunder shower complete with rain running down the window looking into the Garden's Cloud Forest.

In the hallway of the Eppig Gallery you can see a display of a variety of giant flowers interspersed with real yellow and red tulips and ceramic rabbits that is sure to bring a smile to your face.

The Big Spring event is offering a wide range of fun activities that children of all ages (and those young at heart) will enjoy. In Clark Hall where some gorgeous azaleas are on display, children will be able to participate in the imaginative Mad Hatter's Tea Party, dress up as bugs and butterflies at the Toadstool Theater and take a walk through an indoor garden maze ("Ladybug Labyrinth") that offers a lot of fun facts about ladybugs. Did you know that several countries in the world consider the ladybug a sign of good luck?

Children can also delight in races with Puddle Bug Boats and mealworms. There is an additional charge for the purchase of the Puddle Bug Boats.

Be sure to step outside to the Garden's courtyard where you can play on a giant checkers board and a giant chess board. On the windows of the hallway by the courtyard, visitors will find interesting facts about butterflies including tidbits like "Butterflies taste through their feet".

Children will also be able to crawl through the Discovery Log (located in the hallway by the library) and see specimens of insects and bugs.

Make sure you make a stop at the Garden's indoor Cloud Forest where you can see hundreds of free-flying butterflies and some very friendly ducks in addition to a variety of tropical plants and flowers and a waterfall.

Outside, the Cleveland Botanical Garden has planted more than 30,000 Spring flower bulbs including daffodils, tulips, crocuses and hyacinths which when in full bloom will thrill visitors with the sight of a sea of brilliantly colored flowers. Kids will also be able to partake in a wide variety of activities in the Hershey's Children's Garden (weather permitting).

Hours for the Big Spring event are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and noon - 5 p.m. on Sundays. The Botanical Garden is closed on Mondays.
