It's a foot-tapping good time at the Washboard Music Festival

Many people know that the washboard was used as a valuable laundry tool for years and years (and it is still used in many areas of the world). Around the mid-1800's in rural America, someone discovered that the washboard could also be used as a musical instrument and provide family entertainment.

Now you have the chance to celebrate the versatile washboard when Logan, Ohio plays host to Ohio's most unique music festival on Thursday, June 12, Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14.

Washboard Music Festival Taking place at several venues and locations in downtown Logan, the Washboard Music Festival honors the mighty washboard and its enduring role in various music styles including Dixieland, jazz, jug music and Cajun Zydeco.

The Festival will feature more than 45 musicians providing free, non-stop entertainment highlighting a variety of music including Blues, Swing, Bluegrass, Ragtime, Old-Time Country, Hot Jazz, Funky Creole, Dixieland and even a bit of Rock 'N Roll.

The Festival kicks off Thursday evening with a concert at 6 p.m. by Arnett Howard and his band playing a mixture of Creole, Jazz and Blues music.

This free, family-friendly event also features arts & crafts from the area's Appalachian artisans, a quilt show (at Bowen House), cloggers and amusement rides.

Musical entertainment will be provided by groups like the Juggernaut Jug Band & Washboard Players, the Hobo Band, the Steel City Rovers, Sweet Funk and The Sodbusters and don't miss the Kazoo Band.

There will also be a Car Show on Friday night ( 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.). Twenty-five trophies will be awarded. Registration fee is $10 per vehicle and the proceeds will go to support Whisker Animal Welfare and Education.

In addition, the Festival will feature a Tractor Show and Hit 'N Miss Engine Show on Saturday, June 14 (from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m) and a big parade on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Kids will be entertained by world-famous puppeteer "Granpa Cratchet", Chris the Balloon Guy and magician Gordon Russ.

One event you won't want to miss is the free tours of the Columbus Washboard Company, the only remaining washboard manufacturing company in the nation.

Of course, there will be lots and lots of food and beverages available for purchase.

Hours for the Washboard Music Festival are 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. on Thursday and noon - 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Again, admission is free as is parking.

The Festival will be located in historic downtown Logan (Main Street at Worthington Park). Logan, Ohio is 190 miles from Cleveland and it is approximately a 3 hour, 13 minute drive.
