It's a fab week to be a foodie

It’s a good time to be a foodie in Calgary. This week marks two of summer’s biggest culinary events, one a longtime tradition, the other brand-spanking new.

August 11: YYC Taste The Trucks

Mayor Nenshi's food truck initiative launch party is happening from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Stephen Ave in the Convention Centre block. "Truckers" include Alleyburger of CHARCUT (and a little show called Top Chef Canada) fame, Fiasco Gelato, and Chef Mario who some may know from Pimento's Mobile Pizzeria. New(er) to Calgary faces will be the PerogyBoyz, Fries 'N Dolls and JoJo's BBQ.

August 11 - 14: Taste of Calgary

It's the 15th year for this food, drink and music festival. Enjoy (if the weather's good) free admission, as the event's held outdoors at Eau Claire Market. Tasting tickets are available at the event, and are $1 each. Samples run from 2 - 5 tickets each. Unlike most of the other food and drink festivals, Taste runs daily from 11 am – 9 p.m.so you can either have lunch or go after work.

Restaurants offering sample-size menu items this year include La Vita E Bella, Baton Rouge, Loungeburger and Ric’s Grill.
