Hey, Cleveland fans of fish, you won't want to miss Vermilion, Ohio's annual Festival of the Fish on Friday, June 13, Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15 at various venues in downtown Vermilion including Victory Park. The 3-day, family-friendly event is only a half hour drive from Cleveland and kicks off at noon on Friday.

Vermilion Festival of the Fish Now in its 48th year and one of the largest festivals in Ohio, the Vermilion Festival of Fish will be celebrating the aquatic creatures with a wide variety of activities for the whole family.

Friday's activities include a Pet Parade at 12:30 p.m. hosted by Fox8 meteorologist Dick Goddard. Trophies and prizes will be awarded in various categories. Later on Friday there will be a Queen's Pageant and fireworks at dusk ( around 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.).

Among Saturday's activities will be a sand castle building contest (from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at Main Street Beach) and a Crazy Craft Boat race on the Vermilion River (starting at the Public Boat Docks). In addition, visitors can participate in a free Fish Hat Decorating activity and take part in a pizza eating contest.

You don't want to miss the Lighted Boat Parade taking place on the river beginning at dusk (again, that will be between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.).

On Sunday, June 15 there will be a Father's Day Parade starting at 12:30 p.m. immediately followed by a Firefighters Water Fight in front of Fire Co. #1 on Ohio Street. Also on Sunday will be a Family Fun Fishing Derby.

There will be lots of free musical entertainment including a concert by Nashville recording artist Chris Higbee on Friday at 8:30 p.m., a concert by Nashville recording artist Christian Kaser on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. and a concert by the group Summer of '65 on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.

Other activities include kids' games and crafts and a performance by YMCA Gymnastics, Harbourtown Dance Studio and Fierce Athletics in addition to a 5K Run and a 1 Mile Walk.

Plenty of food will be available for purchase including walleye and perch sandwiches.

Hours for the Vermilion Festival of Fish will be noon -midnight on Friday and Saturday and noon - 6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission and parking are free.

Victory Park is located at Main and Ohio Streets in Vermilion. Vermilion is approximately a 30 minute drive from Cleveland.
