Nineteen breweries serving cold beer on L.A.’s sweatiest weekend can’t be wrong. Escape the downtown heat on Saturday at BAM Fest, a beer, art, and music festival on the breezy west side. Fortunately, a fixed number of $35 tickets are available, so those who act fast can get unlimited sampling without the crowd. Ice cream and lemonade will be available in the “Chill Zone.” Food trucks will offer Asian-fusion hot dogs as well as organic fare. Though it’s too hot to mosh, attendees can enjoy live rock from the Makepeace Brothers, Speedway, and other local bands. Best of all, the event benefits the 18th Street Art Center. Studios and galleries will be wide-open for viewing throughout the festival, which runs from 1pm-6pm. When the sun goes down, enjoy nearby Main Street and dine at well-loved sponsor restaurant Library Alehouse. It’s the perfect cure for the dog days of summer, even when the dog doesn’t show until halfway through fall.
