It may be too cold for the Eskimo Open at Cog Hill

This Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, Cog Hill Golf & Country Club has scheduled their Eskimo Open. On Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, Jack Frost has scheduled single digit temperatures (below zero-above zero) for Lemont, Ill. (Cog Hill Golf & Country Club is at 12294 Archer Avenue in Lemont, Ill.) Between the two, there appears to be a conflict of interest.

As of Dec. 30, 2013, Cog Hill intended to host their Eskimo Open on Course 1 & Course 3. The formats would be individual competitions and Gross and Peoria (Net) competitions. Men would play from the White Tees and women would play from the Forward Tees. Fees would be $44 per player, which would include a chili meal and drink. Cog Hill intended to award prizes and gift cards.

Jack Frost intends to provide snow to accompany the very cold temperatures. He intends to create wind chills. Wind chills may be -15°.

It appears that these humans and a winter personification have different ideas as to what winter should be like. They are not on the same page. Lemont, Ill. likely already has several inches of snow already on their golf course.

On Sunday, Cog Hill temperatures may be as warm as a summer day on Mars’ North Pole. It may be cold enough for golf balls to stick to golf clubs’ blades. Flags’, fabric parts will likely crackle. It may be impossible to hit golf balls farther than 180 yards. It may be impossible to push wooden or plastic tees into the ground. It may be too cold for the Eskimo Open at Cog Hill.
