Imagine a headless body wandering around a neighborhood near you.
That’s not so scary. It is almost Halloween after all. Besides there are headless bodies in half of the movies hitting the big screen these days.
But I am talking about a different body—one that has been walking this earth for 2000 years.
I would hate to see what his premium would be under the Affordable Care Act. Ouch!
We have many names that mean the same thing: Family of Faith and Covenant Community come to mind; but we are the Body of Christ. We are the church—those called out of this world to follow Jesus.
This body has a head. It is the Lord Jesus Christ.
But too often the Body of Christ seems to be walking around without a head. We don’t’ rightly divide the word of God. We judge instead of love. And sometimes we just don’t use the most useful thing given to us in this modern age.
Beyond these words, we also have the mind of Christ, but sometimes we choose to use our Adam minds instead. We are told that we have the mind of Christ. It is ours just for following Jesus, but we don’t always use it.
We can’t understand all of the mystery that is God, but we have enough understanding from his word, his Holy Spirit, and the mind of Christ that we can effectively employ the Body of Christ to do what God wants us to do as his church.
What does this all add up to?
We have the mind of Christ.
We are the Body of Christ.
Body and mind together, the church should be the most powerful organism on the planet.
The church needs to stop wandering around like it is Halloween all year long. We are not a body without a head. Jesus is the head and we have the mind of Christ.
Let’s get our Christian heads screwed on straight and engage the world as the Body of Christ directed by the mind of Christ.
We have what it takes to bring great glory to God.
What are we waiting for?
