We are safely restrained but having fun!
Fancy and Abby Louise

Once again the summer season is upon us. This is a time for lots of family fun, including our 4 legged members. We must remember to plan for their well being during this active season. If they will be travelling with us be sure to keep them restrained in your vehicle. This will stop injury during an accident, keeping them from getting loose if there is an accident, and any escapes when you make rest stops. Never leave them in a closed car. The heat in the car rises quickly, and heat stroke and death are the outcome. Be sure you take plenty of food and water. Travel can be quite stressful for some of our 4 legged family members. if this is the case maybe it would be kinder to leave them home. If this is the case you can leave them with a pet resort. Some of these places are just as nice as the ones we go to. With a little research, you can find the one you are looking for. A pet sitter is a great option for the ones who don't like to leave home. They are usually very flexible with the options you require. If travelling make sure you bring along all the companions medications, and vet records are good to have, incase of an emergency. Especially if you have a companion with compromised health. Always bring their vaccination record. If you will be staying in hotels be sure to bring a secure kennel to leave them in, if they will be staying in the room alone. This will avoid damage, and the possibility of staff opening the door and letting them out. I also put a lock on the kennel to prevent anyone from opening the kennel door.

Taking you 4 legged companion on vacation can be lots of fun for you both. Remember to try and plan some fun things for them to do, too! Just use common sense and safety precautions and everyone will have a great time, and return home safely! Remember you are their world!!!

Have a safe and happy summer.
