One prolific constant is the miracle of the newly created spirit in each Christian believer. Astounding changes in behavior which spills over to dynamic character changes is the evidence that a reversal from a dark nature has taken place.http://www.daveroberson.org/minibooks.aspx?id=34
A statement from Revelation declares believers are made overcomers by the blood of the Lamb and the word of one’s testimony. Christian singer Mandisa has a song entitled “Overcomer” which is an encouragement that the tools of spiritual victory have already been dispensed to the children of God.
One neglectful aspect concerns the process of how this stunning conversion takes place and some basic steps that take place to initiate such changes many times is overlooked. There are few teaching sessions that simply outline how a transformation of the human character takes place. When the Bible declares, "be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed" is a vital requirement.....but how does one do that?
The actual process of salvation to how one changes rarely is explained and the following is a snapshot of what takes place from being "lost", to redemption, and how a person's character is changed.
The primary issue is being drawn to God by the Holy Spirit as a first step. The Bible declares nobody comes to God unless being drawn by His Spirit. This drawing is accomplished by hearing the preaching or truth being declared from the word of God. Getting one’s attention is the first step.
Secondly, the recognition that one is in a precarious sinful state in dire need of help. The realization that a perfect holy God has a zero tolerance for sin does create guilt mixed in with a healthy dose of embarrassment. This is one reason many feel uncomfortable being in church because the presence of the Holy Spirit brings a conviction of sin.http://www.gotquestions.org/conviction-of-sin.html
The Holy Spirit drawing and the understanding there is none righteous, no not one as the Bible declares, opens the door for the need of salvation or being saved from oneself.
Next, repentance of your sin state takes place. Jesus’ first message was, “repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand”. A combination of the knowledge that one cannot save oneself since each person has been stained with sin and the profound regret of being a sinner is a necessary step that should be the incentive to want to change. The state of repentance is changing one’s mind about sin itself, or deciding to stop doing things that separate us from God.http://www.bethelministries.com/REPENTANCE.htm
Being drawn by the Spirit, conviction of sin by the Spirit, the recognition that one is a sinner, and a heartfelt desire to change are merely the beginning steps. The next critical step is knowing that you cannot save yourself and you need a savior.
This brings us to the auspicious moment of accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior. The centerpiece of the Christian faith is putting your trust in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus and what is represented by Christ and the cross. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Nobody comes to the Father accept through Me.” There is only one way into the kingdom of God according to the word of God.
During the transaction of accepting Jesus as your way of salvation, God does a marvelous work of giving the believer a newly created spirit to replace the dead spirit within them. It is God’s down payment to the future promises and a tiny spark of Himself in each Christian believer.
Unfortunately the struggle with the new believer is the old person which consists of old memories, feelings, and behavior is still there. The new spirit plus the Holy Spirit can empower the individual to fight the temptation to return to their old ways. The epic battle between the new and old man within each individual is an ongoing event.
Once the new spirit is given, according to 1 Corinthians chapters 12-14, there are several gifts given to each Christian to combat the forces of darkness. There are nine gifts of the Holy Spirit in all given to benefit the individual and collectively to the church. With these nine gifts, a new spirit, and the continued conviction of the Holy Spirit, each believer possesses the tools to resist temptation to sin and to take advantage of the avenue of escape promised in the Scriptures.http://www.whatchristianswanttoknow.com/what-are-gifts-of-the-spirit-a-bible-study/
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is physicial evidence the nine gifts of the Spirit as demonstrated in 1 Corinthians 12 has been delivered to the believer. The evidence of a new spirit is substantiated with at least one of the nine Holy Spirit gifts being in operation. Activation of these gifts should then bear fruits as disclosed by the nine fruits of the Spirit which are character improvements in love (agape love), joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance (self-control).
The fruits greatly improve the character flaws that result from selfishness and pride dominating the human condition. Fleshly activities are the result of evil desires driving bad character and terrible displays of sin.
Amazing personality changes takes place as the result of the implementation of Holy Spirit gifts being given to the individual, AND these gifts being used generate the fruits of the Spirit as stipulated in the book of Galatians. Not coincidentally, there are also nine fruits from the nine Holy Spirit gifts.
God is an orderly God, and nothing is left to chance.
Man’s spirit is morally bankrupt and the only way to have the tools for success that consistently adhere to God’s expectations is by what God has gifted to mankind through the Holy Spirit. The entire process is designed for obtaining perfection.
Being perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect is all about the pursuit of being compliant to God’s standards.http://www.ligonier.org/learn/qas/when-jesus-says-be-ye-perfect-your-father-heaven-p/
