We all know how inquisitive any dog can be including your darling little Chihuahua(s). They get into all kinds of things and will chew and eat just about anything they can get into that may look interesting to them. . . . Or it can be just out of boredom. Most things, we can hope, objects and foods alike, are non-toxic to your pets, but it is important to be aware of what is and what is not.

To help you in identifying some of the hazardous items, toxic to your pets, I would like to give you a list. Of course, this list is not all inclusive but can give you a clue as to some of the most common items/foods around your home to be cautious of.

Chocolate, Cocoa bean mulch, Cigarettes and cigarette butts, Mushrooms, Paint balls, Potpourri, Grapes and raisins, Slug bait, chewing gum that contains Xylitol, Pennies, Yarn, string, ribbon, cassette tape and other similar items.

For a listing of other items to be aware of in keeping your dog healthy and happy, read this list at http://www.petplace.com/dogs/tips-on-foods-dogs-shouldnt-eat/page1.aspx.

If your dog does get a hold of something that you are not sure is safe for his health, be sure to call your veterinarian or emergency vet immediately. Most toxins are treatable and if you can get your pet the immediate care that he needs, the outcome will be a happy and speedy recovery.
