"When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you (Matthew 6:5-6)”.
Prayer is meant to be not only a way to talk to God but also a means of creating a personal relationship with Him as well. Praying can be formal or informal, reading from a prayer book or just talking freely. It is a way for us as God’s children to come to Him on our own without the influence of anyone else. Praying can assist us with our faith and strengthen our trust in the Lord.
Do not take prayer lightly. Even if you already incorporate time to pray in your life, there is always room for improvement. If you pray once a month, definitely try praying once a week. If you pray once a week, then attempt to pray once a day. If you pray twice a day, push for three times a day. There is this understanding that the more you pray, the closer you can be with our Lord. It is a simplistic measure that can make all the difference.
There may be moments when you do not know what to say to God. Do not fret. Keep it simple and thank Him for the day at hand and for being able to get through it. You will be amazed at what comes out during prayer even when you think you have nothing to say. The Holy Spirit can awaken your heart and give you the words to say. Remember that it is the quality of what you say not the quantity. It is the humblest of words that can go the farthest. Although, praying with both quality and quantity is acceptable too.
The life of a Christian will have its dilemmas. Do not allow the barricades to hinder your relationship with God but use them to get closer to Him. Sometimes life situations will cause you to stray from Him putting you in a low place of unworthiness. The secret of humanity is that we all are unworthy sinners. Our Lord Jesus however has so much love and compassion for us that He forgives us unremittingly.
Next time you are treading water and feel as though you are stuck in a dark place, fear not. Turn to God even when all around you is pitch black and you cannot see anything. Let our Lord be the Light in your darkness. Allow Jesus to pick you up even when you feel as though it is impossible.
All that is impossible with man is possible with God. All you have to do is ask Him and make it personal. Do not test the Lord. Love the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with all of your mind, body and strength. Do this and He will stand by you always.
