From the rear, Blue teeing ground, the average distance to the putting green is 535 yards. Five hundred twenty-five yards is the average distance from the middle, White teeing ground. The average distance from the front, Red teeing ground is 498 yards. This hole has a #2, course hole handicap.
The architect(s) who designed this course likes unusual layouts; this is the second hole with double fairways. (The fourth hole was the first.) This hole’s, first fairway ends approximately halfway to the putting green—268 yards away. The beginning of this hole’s, second fairway begins approximately 50 yards from the first, fairway’s end—318 yards from the putting green. The 50 yards in between these fairways consists of a swale that is deep enough (one-two feet) to require a tiny, wooden plank bridge for golfers to cross it. (This swale sometimes has water in it.) Otherwise, the 18th hole’s fairways are straight and wide. Trees are on both sides. These tree lines extend from the teeing grounds to the putting green.
White spots on Burnham Woods’ scorecard indicate that there may be four sand bunkers on the left side. If correct, these bunkers are along the first fairways’, left side. All these bunkers are longer than they are wide; two of them are medium size and two are small.
The medium size putting green has an elevation higher than the fairways’ elevation. This green is oval. Groundskeepers usually place the flag and hole in difficult positions.
When hitting from the rear, teeing ground, it is almost impossible for golfers to land their balls on the putting green with their second shots. (This would require drives of 300 yards and second shots of approximately 235 yards. Do not forget the swale at the halfway point.) I recommend that all golfers drive short of the swale about 240-250 yards from the Blue or White teeing ground. Then, they should hit their second shots with fairway woods to land their golf balls 50-100 yards from the putting green. Upon landing their golf balls on the putting green with their third shots, they will only have moderate chances to score par with two putts.
