It has been a dangerous year for voicing the wrong thing

At the beginning of 2013 the correct political thinker police protested Atlanta evangelist Louie Giglio because he preached against homosexuality in the mid-1990s. It began a chilling cycle of punishing those that expressed Christian beliefs in the past or present which did not mirror correct political thinking.

Renowned neurosurgeon and New York Times best-selling author Dr. Benjamin Carson later in February at a Washington prayer breakfast said that hyper political correctness was muzzling dialogue on important national issues.

Carson said, “we’ve reached a point where people are actually afraid to talk about what they want to say”. Carson’s declaration would continue to be substantiated as the year progressed.

Not only saying but doing the wrong thing can put you in a world of trouble. In March US Attorney General Eric Holden said that parents have no right to home school their children. This conservative approach to education is being officially discouraged by the Obama Administration.

The post-Christian era in America has long been pushed for its demise in the United States as a story in April by the Christian Broadcast Network shared an ideal published decades ago by the liberal Times Magazine which prematurely proclaimed that “God is Dead” has been regurgitated by the atheists of today. Any form of religious expression is being challenged by various humanistic groups.

During the year saying or doing the wrong thing cost the job of Craig James with Fox News for voicing politically incorrect positions. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Phillip Monk brought the wrath down from his lesbian commanding officer for having incorrect personal views of gay marriage.

It became a policy of the military to import the philosophy of the Christian hate group Southern Poverty Law Center in the indoctrination of correct thinking in the military’s training guidelines. Christian basher Mikey Weinstein of the deviously named Military Religious Freedom Foundation moved the Pentagon to his way of thinking by getting the military to court martial those that merely proselytized about their religion, even leaving a Bible on a desk could be deemed as dangerous.

In June Exodus International with its controversial reparative therapy which attempted to change the sexual orientation to those seeking help was closed down, perhaps a victim to the threatened lawsuits and intimidation for claiming sexual behavior can be changed. Just articulating a belief that sexual orientation can be unlearned can bring swift retribution.

Subsequent months in July and August saw increased concern of Christian voices being squashed if speaking of Christian standards were verbally declared. Independent agencies reported that Christian persecution had doubled compared to the previous year.

In September it was reported that 180 cities had passed laws suppressing Christians from sharing their views based on Biblical standards. Merely saying the wrong thing could result in jail or fines with many of these measures passed with little discussion. Although there are far more people practicing the Bible sins of heterosexual adultery and fornication, the Bible standard of homosexual sin was only addressed. It would seem logical that speaking out against adultery and fornication should receive the same sanctions. If behavior more widely practiced is going to be the basis for assigning legality, then why shouldn’t fornication and adultery be legalized as well? In fairness other behaviors should be protected.

Duck Dynasty’s patriarch Phil Robertson in December became the latest casualty of stating a Bible standard that has been around for thousands of years. One can wonder if the same aggressive stance will be used on Jews or Muslims should they decide to voice a standard that has been part of their religious teachings.

Should one’s free speech be protected if stating a standard that contradicts political expediency is done? The question has already been answered.
