The sun was rising creeping gently, but steadily towards the dock. Casting an eye to the sky above, revealed a picture of azure blue, and not a cloud to threaten the serenity.
On a black draped stage in this sunlight, men and women of musical talent came together to support a cause, funding issues of “special significance to African American communities”. This event was entitled Jazz on the Waterfront.
Was a good day to see who’s who in Baltimore, keeping Jazz alive. The Todd Marcus Jazz Orchestra was new to me, so was Jazz violinist Chelsey Green.
Associated Black Charities was behind this event, an organization I have not heard from for some time; its embracing the theme, “increasing access and opportunities”. The question is for whom?
I saw most of the “old heads” at this event; ABC needs to have its footprint, much more darkened, visible not only in the sunlight and waterfront communities, but where leadership can be found in its dormancy.
