He could not stop staring at her engagement ring. “Why are all good women taken?” he thought.
Sexy and witty, Amanda worked at a medial spa in Bayside, Miami and each time she called Philip for refills, he stuttered over the phone and blamed poor verbal cohesion on bad wireless connections. A little bizarre was the impression he gave her, little did she know that he was secretly in love with her, she was his dream.
It was business as usual and he continued paying visits to her spa; each time he would bring a box of chocolate for the office as a token of appreciation.
As time went by, he noticed Amanda’s weight loss and an obvious change of personality from talkative and friendly to quiet and reserved, as if she morphed into different person.
Amanda became indifferent. Agony was written all over her face and the bright cheerful aura was replaced by a weak lifeless smolder.
The concerned secret admirer was not in a position to ask, but while signing a spot order, Phillip found the shocking truth as he starred at Amanda’s hand in disbelief. Shocked speechless, as soon as he stepped out of the spa, he could not refrain himself from screaming out loud “Yes!!”.
Amanda was no longer wearing her engagement ring.
It was his chance. “One chance” he thought, he must avail before someone else swept her off her feet again. He knew he had only one strike to homerun so he must wait for perfect timing.
Shakira came along and finally, opportunity was present.
He carefully selected individual sized boxes of chocolates for each member of her spa. Inside the box for Amanda, he placed a ticket to Shakira’s upcoming concert with no notes of explanation.
After two weeks of suspense and not knowing what to expect, Phillip found himself at the concert next to an empty seat. His heart pounded to every beat of Shakira’s performance and with each song he grew more impatient. She was not coming, he thought.
It was the finale performance and Phillip was utterly discouraged and ready to head home. He glanced towards the entrance for one last time and was mesmerized by a strikingly gorgeous woman dressed in layers of pastel colored chiffon that danced in the air with every step she made. He held his breath as she descended closer into visual range.
“Sorry I am late” was the opening line to a finale that brought a new beginning.
Better late than never, Phillip did not care for any explanations; was thankful that Shakira came to town and extraordinarily grateful for the loss of Amanda’s ex fiancé – a treasure that he swore to cherish and never to let go.
Consider past relationships as learning experiences and seek improvements until that one special day, at the most flawless timing, the perfect person will come along and everything shall withstand within one infinite circle with no ends.
It has been six months counting and Philip still could not stop starring at Amanda’s engagement ring - a rare yellow diamond he proudly selected at Van Cleefs and Arpels, and has been practicing how to say “I do” in ten different languages.
Timing was just as important as pacing, so he waited and won his ticket to love.
