Well it is a recurring thing here in El Paso. I know this for sure because I have been in the mix of it for the last 7 years.
El Pasoans (but not everyone) only really go out at to support the teams of UTEP when they are winning. Why is that!? I know that teams have there ups and downs, but if you are a fan, why not cheer and support the team you love all year long weather they are winning or losing? For example, I am a Kansas City Chiefs fan. I have been since Joe Montana move there from the 49ers. I am still to this day a Chiefs fan. Why can't we all just be Full-time Miner Fans, Basketball or Football? Not just bandwagoners, whenever it comes around.
What even gets to me is when a team is losing or has had a losing season. Tickets to their games are one low price. Then when the team starts winning, the prices go up, and in some cases way up! But I guess the only time to profit from a team, Pro or College is when they are winning. I know the name of the game is profit, but for the team and owners, not for the fans. But most true fans already have season tickets, and the ones that go only when they are winning complain about the tickets being to high priced.
So I guess the point I am trying to make is...Go out and support the Miners, Men's or Women's sports, and not only when they are winning.
Not to take anything away from the Guys, so a BIG Congrats to the Utep Miner Guys for breaking the ESPN's Top 25 poll, and the getting enough votes to be ranked 26 in the AP coaches poll. Just in case for those of you who have just jumped on the bandwagon, Utep Men's Basketball is 11-1 in Conference USA, and 20-5 over all.
Their next game is out of town, and against Southern Miss, 6:00 pm MST
Enjoy the highlight of the Utep vs Tulsa game.
