Israeli couscous recipes
While perusing the aisles of Trader Joe’s the other day, I found an interesting item in the grain section of the store. It is called Harvest Grains Blend. It is a mixture of Israeli couscous, orzo, baby garbanzo beans and red quinoa. Sounded interesting, so I picked up a bag. It was a few dollars, so not expensive at all.
I wanted to try this before I played around with it, so I cooked it according to package directions.
It called for 1 ¾ cups of chicken broth or water boiled, then add 1 ¼ cups of the couscous blend. Bring to a boil and then cover and turn down to a simmer. It’s ready in 10 minutes.
It was fantastic. Something definitely different, had some healthy grains and legumes in it and certainly a nice change of pace to regular couscous or even rice.
I’ll be making this again, but next time, I’m going to turn it into a main dish. Maybe I’ll use chicken or shrimp. We will definitely keep you posted.
