Israel mistreats Palestinian children

The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians is an ongoing violent act that shocks the entire world. While Israel focuses towards finding a way of turning Gaza into an independent state, recent reports show that such a goal is impossible to be achieved due to the low standards of livings and the lack of the development possibilities.

Furthermore preconceptions and the ongoing dissonances gave birth to a constant feeling of hatred that manifests itself in all contact situations between the two sides. It would seem that not even children are spared from the consequences of the horrible conflict.

UNICEF has recently discovered numerous cases of child abuse. Apparently Israel has very little concern of respecting the human rights laws when it comes to Palestinian children. Reports show that a lot of children taken into police custody are facing cruel treatments and unfair trials. Even more disturbing is the fact that sometimes minors are not even allowed to contact their families or to consult a lawyer.

Children are taken from their homes in the middle of the night for interrogation followed by other traumatizing incidents. Interrogations often included intimidation, threats and physical abused.

After being questioned on the matter Israel officials deny the accusations brought by children protection services. Their answer was that while they take matters of security very seriously they do not encourage unfair treatment to Palestinian minors.

However nothing is surprising from a nation that has shown its violent nature on multiple occasions. Having a lifetime history of protecting children rights UNICEF has taken the situation in Israel very serious and has gathered a lot of data in order to make a solid case against Israel.

It would seem that the troubles in the Middle East are far from coming to an end. The victims are countless and the prolonging of the conflict can only harden the hearts of the people.

While at first violence was traumatizing to witness it soon became part of the landscape and human kindness is becoming a foreign concept. While political leaders fight in order to achieve their personal goals, adults as well as children view each day as a survival test. Has the American society and tragedy of Sandy-Hook become a foreign concept?
