After a lull in activity, the Los Angeles Dodgers have resumed signing minor-league free agents to potentially fill out the Albuquerque Isotopes' roster.

The Dodgers announced on Twitter that they have signed right-handed reliever Sam Demel and third baseman Josh Bell, while another reliever, Josh Ravin, has also reportedly signed with the organization.

Demel, 28, pitched well (1-1, 1.72 ERA, 3 saves, 65 strikeouts in 52.1 innings) with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Yankees) this past season. He has past big-league experience with the Diamondbacks.

Ravin, 26 in January, struggled in the Reds' organization this summer. He was 1-3 with a 5.82 ERA in a season split between Triple-A Louisville and Double-A Pensacola, walking 38 batters in 51 innings. Ravin has never pitched in the Majors.

Bell, 27, is a former Dodgers farmhand who now returns to his original organization. A fourth-round draft pick in 2005, Bell was traded four years later to the Orioles in the deal for big-league reliever George Sherrill. He played in 100 games in the Majors with Baltimore and Arizona, batting just .195/.223/.265. Bell's 2013 was a forgettable campaign (.226/.324/.356, 5 HR, 21 RBI) split between Scranton and Charlotte (White Sox).

All told the Dodgers have signed five infielders this offseason, including Brendan Harris, Daniel Mayora, Clint Robinson and Jamie Romak. They have also signed four other relief pitchers, Juan Gonzalez, Josh Judy, Daniel Moskos and Justin Souza.

Winter leagues update

Most of the current or future Isotopes playing in winter leagues around the Caribbean this season have finished up their campaigns and come home.

In the Dominican League, shortstop Dee Gordon played in just 12 games in center field for the Licey Tigers, batting .348/.412/.370.

In the Puerto Rican League, right-hander Matt Magill struggled (0-3, 6.43, 13 walks in 21 innings) for the Mayaguez Indians.

In the Venezuelan League, right-hander Red Patterson pitched well (2-1, 3.35) in eight starts and one relief appearance for the Lara Cardinals. Outfielders Nick Buss (.301/.337/.495, 3 HR, 22 RBI) and Joc Pederson (.255/.439/.473, 5 HR, 13 RBI) both played well for Lara. Pederson drew 36 walks while striking out 42 times in 110 at-bats.

Left-hander Chris Reed scuffled (1-0, 5.79) in four starts with the La Guaira Sharks.

Managerial search ongoing

The Dodgers have still not named a new manager for the Isotopes for 2014.

Lorenzo Bundy was named Isotopes manager back on Dec. 10, 2010, so the Dodgers are taking even longer this time around to decide on his replacement. Of course, Bundy was simply promoted from within the organization, while there is no obvious in-house replacement this time around.
