Nick Buss went 2-for-3 with a solo home run as the host Sacramento River Cats held on for a 5-4 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Tuesday night. Buss' homer was part of a decisive four-run fifth inning.

Red Patterson (2-4) gave up all five runs on 10 hits in four-plus innings. He struck out two and did not walk a batter for Albuquerque (23-28).

The Isotopes were leading 3-1 going into the fifth when Buss led off with his home run. Jose Martinez and Tyler Ladendorf hit back-to-back singles, setting up Alden Carrithers' two-run triple that put Sacramento (32-20) ahead 4-3. Shane Peterson followed with an RBI single that ended up being the winning run for the River Cats.

Albuquerque had a chance to come back in the sixth inning. The Isotopes loaded the bases with no outs as Miguel Rojas singled, Joc Pederson walked and Clint Robinson singled.

Jamie Romak drove in Rojas with a sacrifice fly, but that would be it. Alex Liddi grounded out to first base and Trayvon Robinson struck out looking.

Albuquerque went down in order in the seventh and eighth innings. Trayvon Robinson singled with two outs in the ninth, but Griff Erickson struck out swinging to end the game.

The Isotopes and River Cats will continue their series Wednesday at 8:05 p.m. Right-hander Jeff Bennett (1-1, 0.00 ERA) will start for Albuquerque against Sacramento right-hander Marcus Walden (2-1, 5.20).
