Isometric exercises to trim and tone (Video)

On some occasions it may be difficult for people to get to the gym or it may seem as though they are battling their family for the television so they workout to their favorite workout video. However, isometric exercises are an effective way to tighten and tone the body. There are many varieties of isometric exercises that may be performed while sitting in a chair. They can be completed at a desk working or on the couch in front of the television. Isometric exercises use body weight as a form of resistance to increase strength. The duration is more important than intensity when performing these exercises. All moves may be performed for five to ten seconds and may be repeated three to five times.

1) Biceps

Position the hands underneath the chair that you are sitting on with your palms in an upward position. Push the palms in opposition to the bottom of the chair.

2) Triceps

While sitting in a chair position the hands on a seat next to you and grasp the edge of the chair. Push down and hold the position.

3) Stomach

To exercise the stomach muscles bend in a forward position at the waist and reach the ground. Press your fingers into the ground floor firmly.

4) Chest

Place arms straight in front of chest with the palms together. Push the arms toward each other in order to create tension.
