The Islanders, the parent club of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (who also play their home games at the Webster Bank Arena), last played in Bridgeport in 2011 when they entertained the then-Stanley Cup defending champion Bruins, before a sellout crowd.
The Sound Tigers, who will be embarking on their 15th voyage in the American Hockey League this season, are the top minor league affiliate of the Islanders. Several members of the Islanders are former Sound Tigers, including Islanders alternate captains Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen. Okposo compiled 28 points (nine goals and 19 assists) in 35 games with the Sound Tigers while Nielsen, who played two seasons in Bridgeport, totaled 82 points (30 goals and 42 assists) with the Tigers. Indeed, over the course of the 2013-14 campaign, 14 players dressed in at least one game for both the Sound Tigers and Islanders. And Islanders’ head coach Jack Capuano was the Sound Tigers’ head coach from 2007-2010. He also played in two games for the Bruins during the 1991-92 season.
