After trading Matt Moulson and a pair of draft picks, the New York Islanders acquire Thomas Vanek from the Buffalo Sabres. Vanek's first game came with a loss two nights ago against the New York Rangers and there are lots of things that need to be done, going into tonight’s game.
After a few post-game interviews, John Tavares, Thomas Vanek and coach Jack Capuano seem to on the same page with what needs to be done going forward. The first line is going to have to get used to playing with Vanek and he will have to get used to the Islanders style of play, that’s a no brainer. But the biggest problems the Islanders have, seems to be the ones they are failing to fix.
"Disappointing thing for me is, the things we go over and the things that we talk about, they made the same mistake again" are the words that came from coach Capuano after the loss to the Rangers.
There is a new shift in the Islanders approach since the Ranger loss, however. The players and coaches are taking on a new positive approach by leaving Tuesday's game in the past and being more positive and having a little fun during practice. This will hopefully allow the Islanders to a fresh start going into tonight's game.
The Islanders will have to finish their hits, not allow turnovers and clear the puck to be successful on the road against the Ottawa Senators this evening. The puck will drop at 7:30 p.m. EST.
