Cuban born fashion designer Isabel Toledo received a Tony Award nomination today for her work as the costume designer of the musical “After Midnight”. The nominations were announced this morning by Lucy Liu and Jonathan Groff Live on CBS.
The musical “After Midnight” received seven nominations including: “Best Costume Design of a Musical” (Isabel Toledo), Best Direction for a Musical (Warren Carlyle), Best Choreography (Warren Carlyle) and Best Musical.
Toledo has been very busy lately, she collaborated recently with plus size retailer Lane Bryant for the company’s first ever designer collaboration. She received national and international attention when she designed the lemongrass shift dress with matching overcoat that First Lady Michelle Obama wore at the Inauguration of President Barack Obama in 2008.
Actress Vanessa Williams heads the cast of “After Midnight” until May 11 when former American Idol singer Fantasia will take over for her May13-June 8. The show brings the glory days of the Jazz era to life in a high energy, glamorous celebration of Harlem’s legendary Cotton Club.
The 68th annual Tony Awards will air Live on CBS on June 8 and the host this year is Hugh Jackman.
