According to a report by the Boston Herald on October 30, defensive tackle Isaac Sopoaga is excited to be joining the New England Patriots. On Tuesday, the Patriots acquired the defensive tackle in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles just before the NFL trading deadline. The trade was actually the only trade to take place in all of the NFL. In acquiring Sopoaga, the Patriots addressed one of their needs and Sopoaga described joining the Patriots as "an awesome feeling."
In his first meeting with the New England media, the personality of Isaac Sopoaga was apparent and he expressed just how happy he was when he heard of the trade.
"Thank you to the New England Patriots, for today is my daughter's fourth birthday. I felt like today was my birthday. Yesterday was my birthday when I found out New England called me up. Basically, I'm enjoying it and I love it. Thank you."
The Patriots are hoping the excitement transforms on the field as Sopoaga was brought in to help stop the run and clog up the middle of the defensive line with the loss of Vince Wilfork and the injury to Tommy Kelly. The nine-year veteran was acquired for a fifth-round pick and is expected to come in and help rookie defensive tackles Joe Vellano and Chris Jones who have both been filling in.
In his eight games with the Eagles this season, he has recorded 10 tackles with no sacks but his presence should help a defensive line that has been light without Wilfork. If anything, Issac Sopoaga will bring some enthusiasm to the team and definitely character. He described his feelings about joining his new team.
"Like a dream come true to be honest. Respect these guys the last 10 years. It's just an awesome feeling."
