It's not everyday that you get to meet fashion royalty. Finding out that Isaac Mizraahi (who was the subject of my all time fave fashion documentary, 'Unzipped') would be appearing at Sephora in Times Square? I was out of the house in no time. After a complimentary brow shaping, I was allowed to actually sit down and interview the star of The Fashion Show and one of Wendy Williams favorite guests. I die!
Faith Bowman: How did you end up working with Tweezerman? [I like to get straight to the point, ok?]
Isaac Mizrahi: Well, we're very compatible. When they contacted me about doing a collection, I was very happy to work with them. I want my brand to stand for a classic, trustworthy thing, so it's a great partnership. It's a win-win situation.
FB: That's what we all want, right?
IM: That's right.
FB: So the polka dots are all your idea? What inspired that?
IM: Yes! They're so cure, right? You know, we've done polka dots for a long time, so it was a no brainer. Ijust thought 'let's develop polka dots'.
FB: Now, you've always been into the beauty thing, right? Like for yourself?
IM: The make fun of me at my pool, where I've gone for the past 30 years? Because I have more products than anybody at that whole gym. I have , like, a thing this big [gestures] full of products. So embarrassing. And I use every one of them. It's crazy.
FB: I like that, commitment to beauty...
IM: That's right
FB: Let me see those, are you going to be using these? (points to tweezer minis)
IM: Yeah! Absolutely!
FB: These are so cute!
IM: I know, these are like minis...
FB: I like them.
Isaac starts to open a Tweezerman package on the table between us.
FB: Wait! You're not supposed to open them!
IM: I can open them! I't's my damn thing...(looks at publicist) Look, I opened these, sorry. (turns back to interviewer).
FB: Now we're both gonna get in trouble! (laughs)
IM: Now, here's what I live for. I live for tweezer caps, don't you? (grins mischieviously and waves them at the crowd eyeing us from beyond the ropes)
FB: I love it. Now what about this one?
IM: That's great, too, like a splatter moment? That's another thing we do a lot, is splatter. It almost seems like camouflage, right?
FB: Yeah, it's Warholian. What's next for you? Because you're everywhere now.
IM: I know! We're doing really well. I have to say. We have a number of licenses, and we're in department stpres. We're doing shoes, handbags, sunglasses. I'm very excited.
FB: Did you see all of this happening way back in the day when you were fighting for a scrim?
IM: NO! That's the thing! I never saw anything happenings! It's not like it's any different. Everything is exactly the way it always was, you know. Because, you keep it focused on what you do...
FB: That keeps you grounded?
IM: That's right.
