On the eve of Valentine’s Day, or as some like to call it “National Singles Recognition Day,” people are often focused on their romantic relationships, or lack thereof. If you don’t have a valentine, questions always arise in your mind about whether you’ll find your ideal mate any time soon, or are you doomed to keep rolling past Valentines Days without someone to share a box of chocolates with?
The point of relationships – any relationship – is to teach us about ourselves. We don’t need to have a romantic relationship to learn about ourselves, and we certainly don’t need one to feel good about ourselves. That’s one of the lessons we’re meant to learn during our single periods: Loving ourselves when we’re by ourselves; realizing we don’t need another person to “complete” us; we’re complete unto ourselves.
Once we learn our own self-worth and realize it is completely separate from our affiliation with another person, we can be a healthy partner to someone else. And how about that someone else? Is a soul mate a sole mate? This is a question my friend, psychic Terryee Abbott, and I answer in our book, “You mean there’s a LAW that says he has to be ATTRACTED to me?” A psychic and a humorist explain metaphysics. The answer is no, you have more than one soul mate. Romantic partners are seen as karmic soul mates, twin flame/twin souls, or companion soul mates. So if your valentine just decided you would make someone else a better valentine, don’t despair. That wasn’t the only person in the world that you can fall in love with.
It would be easy if the universe matched us up perfectly in two-by-twos like Noah’s Ark. But that doesn’t happen. When we find that “perfect” partner, there is usually a lot of effort involved to maintain the excitement in the relationship. Can it be maintained? Yes, but only if both partners work at it. So there are a lot of lonely people out there right now who are “half” of a couple. There are a lot of miserable people who would love to be celebrating National Singles Recognition Day, but they feel trapped in unhappy unions. So if you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day with a pint of Haagen Dazs and your remote control, be happy! You own the remote and you don’t have to share a bite of ice cream. Enjoy your time alone, learning to love yourself. You are your most beautiful valentine.
