Our days sometimes feel like they are literally turning wheels, rotating us out of control. Then we end up feeling like we are constantly moving but never reaching our goal. Plus, it seems like there is always something that has to get done. Can you relate to this?
During those hectic hours don’t we feel tempted to act out of character? Then sometimes we just give in to those disrespectful behaviors. Let’s tell the truth and receive deliverance from God. Amen? Amen.
Some of us will take no control over our thoughts on those days, letting all kinds of lies bombard our minds. That is when confusion torments us and we feel like we cannot breathe.
When that happens, admit that you have fallen short (that you’ve basically messed up). Then refocus on who God is and how he has commanded you to live. Now, this is not always easy since the enemy will show you all your faults in order to bind you with lots of guilt and shame.
This means, you have to mediate on Romans 8:1-2, which states, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”
Next, pull out that story in Luke 10:38-42. In the text, Martha is busy running around preparing this and fixing that. She is doing good things, but she is busy, busy. Verse 40 reads, “But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.”
Her sister Mary, on the other, hand stops her work (jumps off the turning wheel) and “sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said” (verse 39). Mary understands that being close to Jesus means she will be in close proximity to peace, love, joy, purpose, rest, patience, among the other blessings that come with spending time with Jesus.
The irony in this passage is when Martha goes to Jesus, complaining about Mary. “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” Jesus has to correct Martha since he sees that she is stuck on the spinning wheel like so many of us.
In verses 41-42 Jesus said, “Martha, Martha…you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
When you notice you are stuck on that rapidly spinning wheel, pull back so you can refocus. Don’t forget to grab your Bible, turn on some praise music, fellowship with other Christians, and talk to God (pray). As a result, you will end up in Mary’s position, which is a balanced life at the feet of Jesus.
Prayer: Dear God, help me to remember that I am covered in the blood of Jesus. I also know that you have forgiven me for _____________ (Name the sins). You said in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that if your people, who are called by your name, will humble themselves and pray and seek your face and turn from their wicked ways, then you will hear from heaven, and you will forgive their sin and will heal our land. You also said in I John 1:9 that if we confess our sins, you are faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Amen.
