One of the mentors from this season of "American Idol" has made a statement that may be viewed by some as an attack. Speaking after a performance of his hit song "OMG" that vaulted him up the music charts, Usher had this to say about performers who try to use "Idol" as an easy platform to success:
"The true art form of music is being lost because it seems so easy that everyone can do it, and that it can happen overnight...Television is a lie. It can’t happen overnight. The artist who thinks it can just comes and goes. The reason why great singers cannot exist in this time is maybe because they’re not properly managed, and maybe they don’t understand the full gamut of what being an entertainer is.”
Is Usher necessarily saying that "American Idol" is killing the music business? Not necessarily -- rather, it seems to be that people are interpreting the show to be something it's not -- an instant opportunity to make a worldwide star. For evidence, all you have to do is look at the show's past. While some "Idol" winners have gone on to be multi-platinum artists (Carrie Underwood), others (Taylor Hicks) have struggled to find a devoted following.
Do you think Usher should keep his mouth shut considering the show recently promoted his music? Let me know your thoughts with a comment below and click here for recent "Idol" photos.

Um, let that man talk. He has been in the business for many years and obviously knows what it takes to stay in the business. American Idol is like mass producing "talent" which sucks.
Leave my baby daddy alone. LOL!!
hope usher is not generalizing, think of adam lambert, carrie underwood, jenifer hudson, daughtry, nordin sparks, david cook, david archuletta, kelly clarkson, danny gokey, where will they be without AI?
@Makeda - "American Idol is like producing 'talent' which sucks." Uuuuh, MASS producing?? I think your mind is somewhere out past left field! AI simply provides a vehicle to expose musical artists to the public. As seen with many AI contestants, i.e., Hudson, Daughtry, and Lambert, you don't have to WIN to be successful in the industry. Occassionally you do have an AI winner that does really BIG (Clarkson, Underwood). :)
Anyone seen this man's recent video ... don't know the name of it but REALLY??? American Idol is not supposed to give an artist 'instant success' ... just a platform to show your talent to the multitudes rather than trying to get someone in the music business to take a chance on you without an established fanbase. NOT everybody wants to be a RAPPER!!!
Most of the artists on Idol who make it to the finals have been in the business for years and many have even put out an album. Who is Usher to talk? His prodigy Justin Beiber never played in any clubs or stages before he got successful. Singing on youtube is not equivalent to a real live audience. Usher should get informed before he talks.
I think he is trying to keep it real he's been there and done that so what he says you have to take to heart after all he is the Man . God-Speed ...
