Barbie has always been known for making classic dolls that become beloved pieces in doll collectors' cases. However, their recent tokidoki Barbie Doll has come under some criticism from some, including mothers of young, influential girls.
According to Barbie Collector, “tokidoki® Barbie® doll is always ready for cutting-edge fashion! She pops on a pink miniskirt, logo leggings and black top with signature skull heart and bones, carries a large bag from the brand, then adds bracelets, a belt, and sky-high sparkly silvery shoes! This funky fashionista features trendy tattoos and a pink bob. With cactus friend, Bastardino, by her side, she’s ready for fun in fashion-forward form!”
However, many mothers and other critics are saying the doll is too grown up for girls. Seeing as the doll features tattoos all over her back, chest, neck and arms; she is giving well known inked celebrities like Angelina Jolie a run for their money.
Still, is this doll really to be considered a bad influence for young girls? After all, being a Gold Label doll (which means there will be no more than 7400 dolls worldwide), this is not exactly a play toy. The individuals who are lucky enough to get their hands on the doll will most likely be avid doll collectors who will want to cherish the doll.
So what do you think? Is it merely another form of beautiful art from the fabulous designers at Barbie, or is it crossing the line? Please comment below to voice your opinion!
