Time is one of the strangest properties of our universe.
Is time travel possible? This video of a 1938 film purports to show a time traveler coming out of a DuPont Factory in Massachusetts talking on a cell phone.
Is time travel possible? What is time?
For centuries, such questions have intrigued mystics, philosophers, and scientists and the line between mysticism and science has grown thin. Allegedly, there is a story circulating among scientists of an immigrant to America who lost his watch.
Walking up to a scientist on a New York street, he asked in broken English, "Please, Sir, what is time?"
The scientist replied, "I'm sorry, you'll have to ask a philosopher. I'm just a physicist."
In technical papers, physicists generally avoid the terms "moving" or "traveling" through time and instead discuss the possibility of closed time-space loops to the past or future. Some theories suggest that suitable geometries of space-time or specific types of motion in space might allow time travel to the past and future.
What do you think? Should we discount the possibility of time travel?
