Is There Really Chicken In That Nugget ?

October 4, 2013

According to a article on reuters.com, dated October 4,2013, there has been some interesting finds in a couple restaurant chains' nuggets. Researchers of Mississippi have found two nuggets to not completely be called all "white meat" chicken nuggets. Considering the fact that it might not be true that these nuggets are completely white meat, wouldn't be a surprise. For many years, there has been much speculation over whether or not most restaurant nuggets are worthy enough to contain actual meat or not. So here is what they found.

They observed and did a study on two different nuggets, one a little different than the other but neither was one-hundred percent meat. One was found to contain bone, cartilage and a large amount of fat, with about forty percent muscle. The other nugget contained a large amount of muscle, fat, blood, internal organs and nerves. Now this isn't what you would call a genuine peace of meat due to the fact that there is barely any meat at all in the first place, although it might taste like the meat it isn't. The same goes for that health wise, although it may taste good doesn't mean it's good for you.

White lean meat, like chicken, is good for you. A battered and fried nugget with little actual meat on the other hand is not. Many children love these nuggets of artificial flavorings and false advertisement but there is a alternative. One way is to maybe make some homemade chicken nuggets and bake them instead of frying them. Another reason why conventional nuggets in the restaurant aren't so great is because a large amount of the fat, salt and cholesterol come from the oil and flour. Lets hope these restaurant chains switch to a healthier way of cooking for their customers.
