According to a March 9 report from MMA Mania, UFC 158's Nick Diaz doesn't understand why UFC champ Georges St-Pierre suddenly decided to change his nice guy approach and start a "beef" for no apparent reason.
"I don't know why he's acting up," Diaz said of St-Pierre's approach to UFC 158. "I don't know, I think he should just be himself and do his thing, you know? He wants to come all from the dark side on this one. I don't understand it, I really don't. I don't care. I'm not told about how they are going to portray me or him. They don't give me any like ideas or plans of how they are going to do some sort of a build up or a 'Primetime' or if they're going to do it or not. I'm not sitting around planning how I am going to act or come off like, ‘oh, I better say something intimidating,‘ or, ‘I better talk this shit or that shit.' I just gotta do what I gotta do. So, I don't know what he's going through with the whole dark side or where he comes from or whatever."
Diaz and St-Pierre are set to square off at UFC 158 on March 16 in Montreal.
"I know where the fuck I come from," Diaz said. "I don't have to dredge up some bullshit to get everybody excited, but whatever; you gotta do what you gotta do. I mean, they want to tell you you're exciting or you're not exciting. You're important or not important. You wonder too, if you're not in the media circle, you wonder what the fuck is going on. I'm sure you worry about it. I mean you have to wonder how you are coming off if you're not paying what the fuck is on the Internet. Now your over here doing a ‘I'm from the dark side mode?' I don't know, I'm ready to do my job. I got a fight. I'll keep it real."
Just weeks ago, St-Pierre and Diaz exchanged kind words at the UFC 158 pre-fight presser, which is why some in the MMA community think the "beef" is just staged, as a way to sell more pay-per-view buys.
"Now he don't even know how to talk and don't even know how to act right," Diaz added of St-Pierre. "He's got people living his life for him out in the public. I just like to keep it real so I don't have to put on no image. I don't know how it works; I'm not in his shoes so I don't know. But, I just like to keep it real and be me. It's really hard to do. You walk around everywhere and everybody knows who I am and it's embarrassing to you know? When you're not looking the way you want to look and coming off the way you want to come off but everybody on every street corner knows who you are. You can't get away from it. It's the same thing with the video cameras. I'm happy for it when I'm ready for it but. My life's a mess, I'm not afraid to admit it. I work hard regardless through this shit. But, I don't have people toweling me off and handing me water bottles and getting my training for me and getting my shit ready. I gotta do all that shit on my own. I don't have people tweeting for me or taking care of my money, taxes, financials and all the shit people don't like to talk about. I'm pretty fucked there because I am too busy fighting all your fights and I'm too busy entertaining all the fans. I don't' see anyone else bringing shit to the table."
