Our freedoms in America seem to be eroding at an unprecedented pace. Almost every day a new horror story pops up concerning some abuse of the federal, state or local governments. When 1984 arrived and went, it seemed that George Orwell was a false prophet. Now it seems that he wasn't false, just a bit premature. Perhaps 2014 would have been a more appropriate title. These inroads into the privacy and freedom mostly go unreported by the main stream media. The former champions of the downtrodden masses and those unable to deploy high income lawyers to protect their rights have instead thrown their allegiance to the powers that be. What a sad state of affairs (pun intended).
The latest story to boil your blood involves the electric company. It seems that a new fangled device called a smart meter is a recent brainchild of technology. The electric companies find these highly desirable because they cut their costs (but don't expect to see that cost cut in your bill). The problem is that these devices may not be totally safe – see this article on the problems: http://www.electricalpollution.com/smartmeters.html
Big deal you say. Just say no and you won't have to worry about it. That sounds plausible, but what if the government steps in and dictates that people must accept the new smart meter whether they want to or not? What if the people we elected to represent us and protect us decide that our health is not as important as electrical company profits? It seems that is happening already. The police are now accompanying electrical company personnel to install the meters in at least one city. Two of the people refused to let them swap out their current meter and were arrested. And so we have yet another development that makes us scratch our heads and wonder if common sense has been outlawed. Luckily we have people in alternative media and on the Internet who continue to inform people of the events taking place in our country/world that the mainstreamers don't bother to include in their newspapers/broadcasts. If the government ever puts a muzzle on those outlets, freedom in America will simply become an illusion.
