Is the Magic: The Gathering 2013 Holiday Gift Box worth it?

"Happy Holidays!" Elspeth roared. Okay, not really.
2013 Wizards of the Coast

The holidays are here, and that means it’s time to start thinking about gift options for your collectible card playing friends and family… Or even just to treat yourself. The Magic: The Gathering 2013 holiday gift box is available this year with a MSRP of $19.99. In case you’re wondering, the 2012 box is still around and available for purchase on many websites, so keep that in mind.

This year’s package comes with four packs from the Theros expansion, a storage box, twenty basic lands (To help new players get going), some plastic dividers and a sticker sheet. There’s also an alternate art Karametra’s Acolyte in the box, something extra for veteran players and collectors.

At $19.99, the gift box is an ideal option if you’re looking to purchase a gift for a Magic: The Gatheting player and are not sure exactly what they’re looking for. It’s got cards from the latest set and more storage space is always nice.

If you’re already a Magic player and you’re shopping for a new/prospective player, it might be a wise idea to look into Duels of the Planeswalkers as well – It’s the best way to teach the game. After a digital session or two to learn the rules, the Holiday Box is a nice follow up with some more advanced mechanics – and you’ll be able to play with them face to face!
