From fad to fade the carb diet is making a comeback thanks to hometown hero LeBron James. James, who lost about 10 pounds, was said to be on a low carb diet. The results were fabulous. Now, the low carb diet is back on track. A low carb diet is when you cut out most carbs from your diet. When this happens your body begins to burns fat for energy thus you lose weight. A low carb diet can consist of no sugar and no sugar added foods, no breads, pasta, rice, cereal, fruits, and starchy vegetables. These diets are usually high in protein and fat.
Some of the foods you can eat on a low carb diet are:
• Meats (no liver)
• Fats (including margarine, butter, cream, mayonnaise)
Some of the foods to avoid while on a low carb diet:
• Breaded meats including fish filet, batter-dipped chicken
• Citrus fruits and watermelon, bananas, pineapple
• Starchy vegetables – potatoes, carrots, peas and corn
• White foods like rice, breads, pastas, sugar and flour
A low carb diet is not for everyone. Those with chronic diseases and pregnant women should avoid this diet. According to the American Heart Association “people who have serious medical conditions, such as kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure, should talk to a doctor before starting a low-carbohydrate diet. Also, the American Heart Association does not recommend low-carbohydrate diets because these diets often restrict healthful foods, such as fruits and vegetables, and do not provide essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber.” www.webmd.com
