Although such shows as Modern Family feature main characters that are gay, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists commissioned a survey, released Friday, that revealed over half of the actors who identify as gay, bisexual and transgender believe directors and producers are biased against them. Also, over a third of the actors who didn’t identify with those categories agreed with this perception.
Therefore, even though prominent country singers, such as Carrie Underwood and Willie Nelson (who also do a little acting), have come out in support of gay marriage, many within the entertainment world still believe movers and shakers in the business are biased against them. It’s sometimes easy just to assume -- with the wave of support given to gay marriage of late -- that Hollywood would be on the cutting edge in its backing of gay rights. However, such may not actually be the case. Could it be the industry is saying one thing, but believing something entirely opposite?
