“I feel the earth move under my feet,
I feel the sky tumblin’ down, tumblin’ down,
I feel the earth move under my feet,
Whenever you’re aro-o-o-u-nd…”
--Carole King
Local KPBS television has recently featured musical icons Carole King and James Taylor Live at the Troubadour for several evenings. Fabulous stuff—a real treat for those of us who love these oldie-style ballads that rocked the seventies.
The concert included faves from Sweet Baby James, Tapestry and just about everything in between. With the exception of the artists’ wrinkles, grey hair – or, as in James’ case, lack of hair – everything seemed as it was way back then. Certainly, their voices are as melodious as ever. And all this beautiful, memorific artistry right here in San Diego! It just doesn’t get any better than that. Or does it!
Carole King and James Taylor do well to sing “I feel the earth move under my feet” because that’s exactly what many San Diegans feel nowadays—the earth moving! And more and more frequently.
How so?
Well, these little itty-bitty earthquakes – and some of the larger quakes too – just don’t want to stop. On Saturday, two more quakes somewhere in the 4s hit Borrego Springs and were felt throughout San Diego County, into Riverside and Orange County also. No damage done, but nonetheless such earth-moving stuff is not negligible. Many believe it is a sign of the times.
According to Scripture, these quakes, along with many other cataclysmic events happening throughout the world tell us time is short. No time to mess around with superficiality, not forgiving people, or futile investments. Rather, it’s time to make fruitful investments, eternal investments that impact people’s lives for Jesus.
Yep, it’s time to shake the world with Jesus so that when the earth moves under our feet, we’re not shaken!
