Is the dike about to break on the IRS targeting scandal?

While the media continues to spin the liberal story line concerning the IRS not being guilty of anything and that the Republicans are merely going a witch hunt, there are some interesting developments taking place that could well expose the possibility of the IRA being used as a political tool for the White House.

Lois Lerner, the former top IRS official, declared her innocence of any wrong doing yet refused to answer questions concerning her or the IRS role of targeting conservative groups as religious organizations prior to the 2012 presidential campaign.

Soon after IRS officials met with the White House during a couple of meetings, the IRS began targeting religious organization and other conservative groups. Whether coincidental or not, the timing is being scrutinized and questioned.

Yesterday, on April 10th, a key House panel voted to recommend criminal charges be filed against Lerner due to the overwhelming evidence and that Lerner played an instrumental role in the harassment as claimed by litigants. Later on today another congressional committee is deciding if Lerner showed contempt of Congress for misleading the legislative branch.

Lerner being held in contempt is a step in the process that will ultimately hold the Obama Administration accountable for unlawful actions that defied the Congress, the Constitution, and the trust of the American people. Thousands of Americans were targeted and the actions of Lerner played a significant role in suppressing the free speech of conservatives not agreeing with the government.

Jay Sekulow, Chief Council of the American Center for Law and Justice, noted that over 41 organizations brought suit against the government and hundreds of other businesses have been unfairly targeted by the IRS.

There are a multitude of religious organizations that have filed suit not only for the targeting by the IRS, but lawsuits due to Obamacare being mandated against religious organizations demonstrates clear evidence of religious intrusion by the Obama Administration. More lawsuits against the government for its infringement into religious liberty have been filed than any other time in history.

Evidence of an increased monitoring of religious organizations, particularly of those as the Billy Graham Ministries where tax audit requests were demanded soon after coming out with ads for traditional marriage could easily be interpreted as intimidation.

The IRS is also accused of foot dragging in the processing of requests for conservatives requesting non-profit status. Intrusive questions were asked by the IRS which represented harassment than asking questions that qualified tax exemption for the organization.

Questions regarding abortion and prayer were demanded along with the questions concerning ministry practices and reasons prayer would be used. Those inquiries of the IRS had nothing to do with tax exemption status and more to do with the religious organization’s position on controversial issues that the government did not endorse.

In spite of the political posturing, there is a great amount of evidence contrary to the IRS claims that there were not political motives to their lines of questioning and approving the applications from conservative groups.
