Something nefarious is afoot in Washington, as usual. Here are the facts.
First, Democrats warn that if America defaults on the debt, doomsday won't be very far behind. All sorts of images of immense suffering have been presented by Obama and his supporters to drive home the point that unless the debt ceiling is raised, giving them the go-ahead to continue spending money we don't have like drunken sailors, then great calamity lies ahead.
I have often written of the duplicitous nature of this rhetoric, which underscores the fact that the debt ceiling is arbitrary, the debt is already unsustainable for the long haul, and that the level of debt is infinitely more apt to destroy the country than failing to raise the debt limit. In fact, I have written extensively about why the debt ceiling should not be raised.
However, in the current configuration of government, courtesy of voters who continue to send back to Washington the very characters who lie, cheat, and steal, House Republicans have as much a chance of stopping the raising of the debt ceiling as emptying the Pacific Ocean of all of its water.
With Obama in the White House and Democrats in control of the Senate, it ain't gonna happen.
Second, this being the case, why are Democrats screaming bloody murder in spite of the fact that they know that in the end they will get the debt ceiling raised?
There is but one answer to that question. Obamacare.
For the first time since Obamacare was approved by Democrat supermajorities in the House and Senate, Americans are now beginning to see the destructive effects of this most unfortunate and dangerous law. The roll out began this October and continues.
Already the effects have been devastating. Families are faced with healthcare premium increases they cannot afford, small business have fired workers because they can no longer afford to provide them with healthcare coverage, and other workers have been forced into part time work in order for their employers to avoid having to pay health benefits.
The new law was supposed to lower costs and make healthcare available and affordable for all. But even in the exchanges created by the law, the out of pocket deductibles are so high that most of the people the law is intended to help are hurt the most. A $5000 out of pocket deductible or more is unaffordable for most Americans.
It would almost seem as if the Obama minions made sure that the focus has been on raising the debt limit rather than the disastrous effects of Obamacare.
But nobody in this government would do something as cynical as that, would they. And the news media certainly wouldn't help them refocus attention away from Obamacare, would they.
Why, of course not. Nahhh. Never. Not our government. Not our news media.
Dream on, my friend, dream on.
