Senator Ted Cruz literally and figuratively stood up to Washington style socialism as his filibuster entered its 16th hour early Wednesday.
As Cruz railed against Obamacare, he covered many topics, including reciting lyrics from a song by country music star Toby Keith; reading excerpts from the book, “Atlas Shrugged,” a favorite of libertarians; even working in quotations from the popular reality television show, “Duck Dynasty". Senator Cruz also read his children bed times stories.
Democrats made fun of Cruz and most republicans shunned him though he had support from Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Mike Lee.
But what really emerged overnight was an American spirit thought by many to have been defeated by socialism in the last five years.
Cruz seemed to channel Jefferson, Goldwater and Reagan as one man had the guts to stand alone and with tradition and the Founders.
Socialists may control the minds of most of the youth and certainly are approaching the numbers to see one party socialist rule within a few decades.
But Ted Cruz showed that the true American spirit will always fight to the last man.
