Is target marketing wearing you out?

Are you a business owner who has been concentrating on your target phrases and finding that although your target audience wants your product, they are not necessarily interested in reading about it? Here are three steps to getting from introduction to closing a sale.

1. Getting their attention - So you have this great product or service, and when you write AWESOME content about it, you are lucky to get one or two likes! You keep asking yourself "How can I get people to like and share what I'm talking about". Ian Lurie ( https://plus.google.com/+IanLurie) published a video on Moz about something called "Random Affinities". Basically, they are items that groups of people share as a secondary interest. An example he used was searching through the 'Friends' of a popular SEO professional (which can be done with http://followerwonk.com/) and finding that a lot of the 'Friends' were interested in Comic Books. Although this is a random example, it proves the point. If talking about your product or service directly is not getting the attention of your customers, do not be afraid to jump outside the box to get their attention. But MAKE SURE you put in the time in research first to find those random interests!

2. Building a Relationship - You have heard it said, that "It is better to give than receive". This too is true in the Social world. Do not approach your customers in a way that says "Hi, I'm David, do you want to buy from me". The days of door-to-door salesman, telemarketing and straw markets have killed that approach! Instead, add them to your social world, and when they talk about something of interest, Like, Share and Comment on THEIR items first. Show them that you are not here to leach from them or try to get into their wallet.

3. Passively, or Socially, Sell to your Prospects - You may say "But selling is the only way I can make money!". You are correct, to do this in a way that I have found successful in the social realm, you have to be somewhat passive. So instead of adding a dozen people to your social funnel and hard selling them. Add a couple hundred that you sell to passively (or socially) and see what kind of response you get! Put aside an hour a week to start, and spend that hour building your social sphere. Follow people on Twitter and you fill find many will follow you back. Add people to your Google+ circles and many will follow you back. Allocate some funds to Facebook and use their PPC offerings to build the following on your Facebook business page.

So with the new year upon us, make a new pledge to get outside of the box and sell your customers in a new way. Monitor what happens, adjust, convert and repeat! Good luck to you and please add me to your Google+ Circles to keep up with future posts!
