Is social search the new SEO?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the number one concern for many business owners. Where will their business website rank on Google searches, and what can they do to get higher on those searches?

Business owners, this is your wake-up call! Recent research published by SEOMOZ shows that Google is now including social network information in their search algorithm, often displaying “social” information on the first page of results. Social searches are the new optimization. (For examples of Google searches and social media see the blog post.)

With information from social media showing up in search engine searches, having a presence and running a marketing campaign on social network sites becomes important to improving a website’s SEO. While optimizing websites with good content is important to keeping viewers on the page, and turning viewers into customers, displaying social links on the first page of a website and having a robust social presence may be the tipping point to getting more potential customers to the website.

“The reach of your social network and the sharing you do on social networks will have a substantive, possibly massive, effect on your search traffic.” (SEOMOZ)

If you are not using social media to market your business you are missing a great opportunity and may be left behind as social searches continue to dominate search engine results.
